When we loaded the Old Glory Honor Flight veterans and guardians on their plane this evening, we closed out the 2022 Honor Flight season. Many, many thanks to the hundreds and hundreds of greeters who came to Dulles Airport in the morning and evening from April until November. You were there in the cold and the heat, the sun and the rain to welcome our Nation’s heroes for their day of honor in the Nation’s Capital. Could we have done this without you? Probably … but the veterans would have missed all the cheers, clapping, and flag waving. They would have missed their fellow veterans and active duty personnel. But most importantly, they wouldn’t have seen the smiling faces of the individuals, the families, school children, musicians, service teams, corporate teams, and everyone else who made each arrival and departure special — just for them.
Of course, none of this would have happened without the support of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The management team at Dulles Airport is at the heart of the support to all the Honor Flights that come to Dulles. We thank all the folks who assisted us — the Operations team, parking operations, mobile lounge, TSA Special Services, the police, and everyone else who made each event successful in spite of glitches that periodically occurred.
The Honor Flight at Dulles team thanks each and every one of you for taking the time out of your busy day to come to the airport for them. We hope to see you all again when we start the 2023 season in April.
